King Willem Alexander will sail past various locations on the North Sea on Thursday 25 August for the future of energy. During the trip he will also take a look at the Neptune Energy platform, where the green hydrogen pilot PosHYdon is being prepared.
The King will begin his working visit on one of the transformer platforms of the Net op Zee project for the Hollandse Kust (south). The electricity generated in the wind farm of the same name will be transported to land via this 'plug at sea'. The wind farm currently under construction, which is jointly owned by Vattenfall, BASF and Allianz, will also be visited.
He then continues his journey to the Q13a-A platform of Neptune Energy, where the green hydrogen pilot PosHYdon is being prepared. TNO and Investa are involved in this project as partners. The PosHYdon project is intended to gain experience with offshore production of green hydrogen on a working platform. The lessons learned here can accelerate the further roll-out of the energy system of the future.
After the visit to the Neptune platform, the boat trip continues along Oceans of Energy, a pilot project for testing floating solar panels. Because there is not enough suitable space on land in the Netherlands to generate energy with solar panels, large-scale rollout at sea is necessary to make the energy transition a success. To conclude the working visit at sea, the King will talk to representatives of all parties and organizations involved.
