Statkraft has signed a letter of intent with bakery Dunselman for the purchase of 19 tons of green hydrogen per year. This corresponds to their annual gas consumption of 71,000 cubic meters. With this collaboration, both parties make a significant contribution to the sustainability of regional industry.
“Our collaboration with Statkraft is an important step towards making our bakery more sustainable,” says Peter Dunselman of Dunselman bakery. “The use of green hydrogen reduces our dependence on natural gas and contributes to lower CO₂ emissions. This is in line with our ambition to combine craftsmanship and sustainability. In addition, hydrogen offers a stable and clean energy source for our ovens, without compromising the quality of our products.”
Bakkerij Dunselman, founded in 1860, is a traditional bakery with multiple stores in the Kop van Noord-Holland. The family business attaches great importance to sustainable and social entrepreneurship. For example, they use solar panels to generate electricity and heat recovery to capture and reuse residual heat from production processes. “By applying these technologies, we reduce our energy costs and contribute to a more sustainable future for the bakery sector,” the website states.
Statkraft also reports that the permit application for the Zephyros hydrogen project has been submitted. The application for a OWE subsidy has been submitted. The project plan for Zephyros has been scaled up from a capacity of 2 MW to 6 MW, thanks to the improved availability of technical components required for the construction of the electrolyser. This scale-up significantly increases the feasibility of the project.
The electrolyser will be located on the Oostover in Den Helder (see image). Statkraft expects to start construction of the Zephyros electrolyser in the second half of 2026. The project is scheduled to be operational before the end of 2027.
