On this occasion, DMI also officially announces that it has joined METIP. DMI, DroneQ Robotics and METIP will jointly investigate applications for hydrogen drones in the maritime sector and offshore industry. The hydrogen drone is extremely suitable for maritime applications, such as inspecting offshore installations and performing search and rescue missions.
Drones (unmanned aircraft) with a fuel cell can stay in the air up to four times longer than battery-based versions. This brings a range of new applications in the maritime sector and offshore industry within reach. Think of inspecting pipelines and offshore installations, transporting urgent goods or performing search and rescue missions.
Doosan Mobility International is a global leader in the development of hydrogen drones. In 2020, the company presented its first hydrogen drone, the DS30, with a flight time of over two hours. The successor to this aircraft, the DS30W, matches this flight time, but is much more resistant to bad weather conditions. This makes the drone extremely suitable for maritime applications.
Doosan’s agreement with METIP includes DMI making its new generation of hydrogen drones available for test and demonstration flights. METIP supports the realization of use cases and pilot projects, while DroneQ Robotics is the first designated supplier for (flight) technical assistance.
Hydrogen drones increase the efficiency of offshore logistics and thus contribute to accelerating the energy transition. John Spee, project manager METIP: “The North Sea plays a key role in the energy transition. Offshore logistics plays an important role in the safe and efficient operation of the offshore energy system. The application of new, emerging key technologies such as the hydrogen drone can make an important contribution to accelerating the energy transition.”
Doosan Mobility Innovation creates the world’s first commercialized hydrogen fuel cell system for drones, which has a flight time four times longer than battery-powered drones. Due to their long flight time, DMI’s hydrogen drones are used in various industrial sectors, including utility inspection, logistics, environmental monitoring, and public safety. Based on this green technology, DMI successfully launched its products in the US, China, and Korea in 2019 and will expand its business globally.
The Maritime Emerging Technology Innovation Park (METIP) was made possible by the Regional Deal Maritime Cluster Kop van Noord-Holland. With this Regional Deal, the government, the province of Noord-Holland, the municipality of Den Helder, the partnership De Kop Werkt! and other (public and private) partners are working on an integrated approach to strengthen the living, residential and working climate in the Kop van Noord-Holland. Read here more about METIP.
DroneQ Robotics is a next-generation Unmanned Vehicle System Operator & Integrator, where operational processes and autonomy are key factors for operations in the air, on land, on water and under water. Areas of work include Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drones), Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs).
