With the help of the Hydrogen in Mobility Subsidy Scheme (SWiM), more hydrogen filling stations will be added in the Netherlands by the end of 2027. An additional 192 heavy vehicles, ten passenger vans and nine small hydrogen delivery vans will also be added. The available subsidy will also be increased to €40 million for 2025.
The SWiM – which is part of the Temporary subsidy scheme for zero-emission mobility (TSZEM) – opened on 15 July 2024 and closed on 6 September 2024. Because the budget available for this opening was increased at the beginning of December, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) was ultimately able to approve nine of the twelve submitted applications. The SWiM is for entrepreneurs who invest in hydrogen in a partnership. The partnership (consortium) must in any case consist of one operator of a hydrogen filling station and at least one company that is active as a transporter. A maximum of €6 million can be distributed per project.
As recently announced, entrepreneurs can apply for SWiM subsidy again next year. €40 million will be available. The scheme opens from 1 April 2025 to 7 May 2025.
SWiM contributes to the obligation to have a hydrogen filling station in every urban hub by 2030. There are currently 23 public hydrogen filling stations. HeThe first hydrogen filling station in North Holland North is NXT Mobility and opened in Alkmaar last January. GP Groot verzameling, HB Adviesbureau and NXT Mobility have each put a Renault Master Van H2-TECH hydrogen commercial vehicle into service. The second hydrogen filling station in the region is expected to open in the first quarter of this year by TEAL Mobility in Den Helder.
