Investa is the expertise centre for gasification technology and 'sustainable molecules', a collective name for all sustainable energy carriers such as green gas, hydrogen and biofuels.

In Invest (Institute for Valorisation and Expertise in Thermochemistry Alkmaar) entrepreneurs, researchers and governments work together on innovative hydrogen and green gas initiatives. The focus is on thermochemical conversion of biogenic waste streams and application of the gases produced. DDemonstration projects that have found shelter at Investa include Sustenso, DOPS and Hynoca. These projects have already passed the lab phase. A follow-up phase must demonstrate that the technologies can be successfully marketed.
 
Investa is housed on the Boekelermeer business park in a new, energy-positive building. Researchers and entrepreneurs have access to office and meeting space, a laboratory and technical facilities. Investa is working here on a local network for hydrogen gas, the H2HUb Boekelermeer. Furthermore, Investa is one of the partners in PosHYdon, a former oil and gas platform that is used to test hydrogen production at sea. For PosHYdon, Investa was the 'onshore test location' in 2024.
