Are we still too dependent on fossil fuels in the Netherlands? Shouldn't we skip blue hydrogen and switch to green right away? And is green hydrogen the holy grail of the energy transition? These and other questions are addressed in this podcast with Rene Peters (TNO) and Lisanne Bouwman (Neptune Energy).
Using statements, Rene Peters and Lisanne Bouwman discuss various themes that are important for the energy transition. Hydrogen will play a crucial role in this, ultimately in the form of 'green' (wind energy produced) molecules. But in order to achieve the climate goals, it will be necessary to also focus on blue hydrogen extracted from natural gas during a transition period. Even with the enormous expansion to 6-8 gigawatts of electrolysis capacity, production will not exceed 800 kilotons of green hydrogen. Peters: "This is just enough to replace the current demand for natural gas, not for the additional demand that arises from the greening of, for example, Tata Steel."
