Part of the ZepHYros project

The hydrogen pilot project is one of the projects within the Wadden Sea Green Shipping Programme. This was realised with the support of the Wadden Fund, the Wadden Area Investment Framework and the provinces of Friesland, Groningen and Noord-Holland. The hydrogen pilot project in Den Helder is also part of the ZepHYros project and is supported by the Regional Deal Maritime Cluster Kop van Noord-Holland.

First step towards an emission-free port

The pilot project introduces potential users of hydrogen in the maritime sector to the technology through practical experience. Two vessels with hydrogen-electric propulsion have been purchased for this purpose, namely the H2 Coach Boat and the SWIM water taxi. The first has already sailed its first laps, the second is expected to be launched in January.

With the pilot project, PoDH is taking a first step towards an emission-free seaport. The pilot project aims to interest potential users in a possible switch to using hydrogen in their own operations. The project runs until January 26, 2023. Are you a maritime user, technical party or public institution curious about what sailing on hydrogen can mean for you?
