Sustenso continues under the wings of Engie

Scaling up the biogas installation

Sustenso, one of the demonstration projects of the expertise center Invest, is an innovative company that converts green waste into biogas. The gas is converted into green energy in the digester, with which the installation contributes to the energy transition. Discussions between Sustenso and Engie, a major market player, and the current financiers led to the conclusion that scaling up the biogas installation is more promising within a large company. A large player also offers more opportunities to respond to current movements in the energy market.

Passing the baton

Due to the sale, an exit was chosen for investment fund PDENH, which, together with other financiers, provided the investments in the construction of the digester on the Boekelermeer industrial estate in Alkmaar.

Jonathan Moed, Investment Manager PDENH “We are proud to have contributed to Sustenso. PDENH’s vision has always been that green gas will play a major role in the energy transition. This exit is evidence of the rapid movement in the biogas market. For PDENH, this is a logical moment to hand over the baton to larger parties.”

Sustainable future

Hans van der Weide, CEO of Sustenso, emphasizes that the sale of the biogas plant to Engie is a well-considered choice. “As a company, we are creating space for an even greater contribution to a sustainable future. We will remain involved in the further development of the plant and will continue to produce food supplements from CO2 and methanol from digestate. All with a view to innovation and a positive impact on people, the region and nature.”
