Conversion of the multifunctional service vessel Havendienst 3 to hydrogen-electric propulsion.
This project focuses on making port activities more sustainable by converting the Havendienst 3, a multifunctional vessel of Port of Den Helder, to a hydrogen-electric propulsion. It includes replacing the diesel engines with an electric motor powered by hydrogen fuel cells, with an optional range extender. The innovation strengthens the energy transition by reducing CO2 emissions and serves as a demonstration model for other ports.
The project integrates with the Zephyros project, using a new hydrogen filling station, and will serve as a testing ground for hydrogen vessels, contributing to knowledge development and adoption of sustainable maritime technologies.
