Development of a complete hydrogen chain in the maritime sector, from generation to delivery.
ZepHYros stimulates the development of a green hydrogen infrastructure, including an electrolyser, transport pipeline and a public hydrogen filling station. The permit procedures for the petrol station have been started. TEAL Mobility (Total Energies and Air Liquide) has decided to finally build the petrol station. In April 2024, Norwegian energy giant Statkraft stepped in to explore the development of an electrolyser together with Port of Den Helder (see news item). Statkraft's first electrolyser in the Netherlands will be located on the East Bank and will convert generated renewable electricity into green hydrogen.Statkraft wants to build the 6 MW electrolyser as a pilot towards the ambitions of 100-150 MW electrolyser capacity.
Part of the project is the conversion of a multifunctional service vessel of Port of Den Helder from diesel to hydrogen-electric propulsion (project H2 Maritime). Thanks to a contribution from the Regional Deal Maritime Cluster Kop van Noord-Holland, a test run was organised in 2023 with two test ships. Interested parties were able to become acquainted with hydrogen technology in a practical way.Read the report here.)
Status: Realization of hydrogen filling station mid-2025, electrolyser 2027.
